Alzheimer’s

Alzheimer’s is spreading!
“Why? Ironically, in fighting heart disease, cancer and other diseases, “we’re keeping people alive so they can live long enough to get Alzheimer’s disease,” explains association vice president Steve McConnell.

Indeed, when the baby boomers start to turn 65, in 2011, hope will fade. Already 5 million Americans suffer from this mind losing disease, but now, as the elder population is increasing, Alzheimer’s will become more than common. This is a 10 percent increase compare to five years ago, when the Alzheimer’s Association estimated numbers. As known, age is the biggest factor in this disease, and when the baby boomers turn 65, Alzheimer’s will, as others say, sky rocket. This is obviously a crisis because this is showing that in contrary to all of our technological advances, Alzheimer’s is getting worse. Although this article is not shown in a worldwide aspect, Alzheimer’s is a major disease, which no one knows the cure to. Alzheimer’s simply robs the victim’s memory and abilities to care for themselves and then eventually kills them. This is a crisis, as it is getting much worse and the expenses for the medical care are depriving money for other, curable illnesses. It is hard to find reasons why this progressive growth is occurring so rapidly, but people must begin to act.

Hey Laurent, nice presentation in class. I think that this is a good article since it’s recent and important to our health. Even though it may not be important to us at this age, it will be eventually. According to the article, Alzheimer’s is starting to affect a person at a younger age than usual, which does seem a bit worrying. The cause of this could possibly be the change in our lifestyle with all the technology we have. Either way, I wouldn’t like to imagine the world when Alzheimer’s begins to affect people at even earlier ages like in the twenties or thirties. I also think that this article is important to us and the world because if we can’t find a cure or at least a way to slow down the development of Alzheimer’s in someone’s brain, a large majority of the world will be suffering. Additionally, as you said, the cost for medical care for those with Alzheimer’s is taking money away from researching and finding a cure to other diseases. I not sure about other people, but it says that you have pictures on your post, but they aren’t supported by my browser. I’m not sure what that is or means, but great job anyway.

    Hey Laurent,
Good job on your current events post. Not only did you summarize this well, but also your short presentation during class was very imformative. Alzheimer is a very dangerous disease and 5 million Americans are affected by it. That’s a lot of people. In addition, there’s no cure for it. Yikes.. Also, people affected by this disease is forgetful. Anyone reading this, beware, don’t use too much deodorant because it has aluminum in it and it increases the chances of you getting Alzhiemer according to a magazine article I read (or something like that). Anyways, good job Laurent.

    Laurent,
I really like your article because my own grandfather had Alzheimer’s and he didn’t
even know who i was and he recently died. I think that Alzheimer’s is a very important
diease to try to cure because so many people now have it. Your aticle is very important
because it can educate people more on the dieases that affect our old population.

    hey laurent

This article is really affective and a seriuos problem these days. many old people even some young people are getting alzheimer. the scientists should find a way to cure this disease because or else, many people will die out from this disease. i think its really bad that people forget about their memory and if it gets worse, people will even not recognize their own sons or daughters and relatives. This article is awesome but i cant see the pictures:D good job

    Steve

    Hi Laurent,

This is such an interesting article. The quote with which you started your summary is a powerful one. It seems like man has spent all of his existence trying to defeat nature and Alzheimer is nature’s way of reminding us that everything has its own course. We try to fight our own mortality but at what cost?
